I challenge you to spend a day with your every word transcribed.
Every time I read a raw (unedited) transcript of court proceedings I am re-amazed at the things that come out of peoples mouths that the ear glossed right over. In multi-day trials, I usually get the first day transcript. It all sounded smooth enough to me as it was going on, but the number of stumbles, halts, mis-statements, etc. which show up in the transcript are amazing. Mine, the other attorney's, the judge's, the witnesses', everybody's.
Almost none of us who work without scripts live with our every word being taking down all day long. Politicians, lawyers in court, and live TV newscasters are about the only ones. And have you ever seen those blooper shows where the stations let out only those bloopers that they feel will be funny but not embarassing to the station?
Try it sometime, and you'll agree with Neo. |
