KT and All,

An unexplained anecdote.

I visited the service and parts department (building complex) of a large Toyota dealership in Danvers, MA this morning and found the place far busier and crowded than it has been in a decade. I questioned the clerk at the parts desk and he said that the Toyota service business had been very strong the last three months and that new Toyota sales were also very strong, with 650 Toyotas sold in the last reported month.

It seems unlikely that Toyota has suddenly started producing cars with high service requirements, and I hadn't noticed any particular level of Toyota incentives, and it doesn't sound like they need them anyway.

Does anyone have a likely explanation? Are they just grabbing market share? Since they have a mix of foreign and domestic production, it's not clear how exchange rates may enter in.

TIA, Don
