Asking to borrow someone's Vaseline is a serious broach of etiquette. That is like asking to borrow someone's comb, chap-stick, or toothbrush. If you are truly desperate, the thing to do is to knock on your neighbors door and ask to borrow a cup of Crisco. Just tell them you were in the middle of making a batch of cookies for your niece and just realized you did not have enough shortening. They will never suspect a thing...
