Fact is Harry Truman had a dalliance with the Klan as a young man, then denounced the organization. He saw the light and was a better man for it, and proved such by his actions as president. By comparison, George Wallace was a segregationist early in his career, then changed his views later in life. I'm sure Strom Thurmond made many changes over his nearly 100 years on earth.

Which is why it's off-target to castigate Robert Byrd for any similar dalliance he may have had with the Klan 60 years ago.
