BOSTON (CBS.MW) -- General Electric's top executive, pointing to signs of persistent economic stagnation,
said Wednesday that the nation's chief executives shouldn't count on a strong recovery later this year or in
early 2003.

"I don't see a spark" for any economic recovery, Jeffry Immelt said in an appearance before the Chief
Executives Club at BostonCollege.

Immelt declined to comment on GE's own estimated financial results for the current quarter.

He did say, however, there were are no signs that capital expenditures were improving, and he noted that the commercial airline industry appears to be in worse shape than six months ago.

n recent trading on the New York Stock Exchange, shares of GE (GE: news, chart, profile) were up $1.00 to $26.90.
