Correction. It was Senator John McCain on Meet the Press: MR. RUSSERT: Based on everything you know as a former military man, a United States senator, the behavior of Saddam Hussein, do you believe we will go to war with Iraq? SEN. McCAIN: I do. I believe that we will for a broad variety of reasons which we can get into, including the fact that basically he’s a clear and present danger to the United States of America. MR. RUSSERT: How so? SEN. McCAIN: He has continued his efforts of acquire weapons of mass destruction. He has used them on his own people. He’s used them on others. If Saddam Hussein only wanted to survive, then long ago he would have complied with the cease-fire agreement and the Security Council resolutions, gotten rid of his weapons of mass destruction, and then, you know, as odious a person as he is, we wouldn’t be threatening him, but he continues on this path towards the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction. msnbc.com
