mepci - not very likely that they would use the exact same strategy for share repurchase in future. If they were going to use options to lock in price they buyback shares they would likely add some sort of protective put to the equation that would prevent them from having to buy back shares at one-half prevailing mkt.

Did you realize that if DELL did not buyback 1 billion shares at approx $12.50 per share over the last 5-6 years the earnings in most recent qtr would have been almost identical despite the dilution ???

they would have needed to earn a little over 6% in investment income on the excess cash to achieve this feat

very interesting indeed
