Too many major companies could still warn this week and next week before the real earnings season gets started around October 7. My guess is not-too-rotten news and slightly more positive outlooks during mid-October could ignite a genuine (though modest) rally. If all the news is bad, October could suck too. A very dangerous whipsaw environment.
