Jobless claims head lower Last Update: 8:30 AM ET Sep 26, 2002 The moving average of first-time jobless claims inched lower for the first time in seven weeks, dropping by 1,000 to 419,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. Meanwhile, the moving average for continuing claims for state jobless benefits continued to climb, rising 29,500 to 3.58 million. In the most recent weeks, first-time claims fell by 24,000 to 406,000, the lowest in five weeks. Weekly continuing claims jumped by 89,000 to 3.68 million, the highest in more than two months. |
