Cell Phone Technology Leaked to China By Lee Chi-dong A local venture firm has allegedly sold a core mobile phone manufacturing technology owned by Samsung Electronics to a Chinese firm. The revelation has made local business circles more nervous, as the technology gap between Korea and China has been narrowed quickly in recent years. The Kimchon office of the Taegu Public Prosecutor¡¯s Office yesterday arrested three senior employees of Bellwave Co. on charges of leaking core technology of the SCH-800, one of Samsung¡¯s latest mobile phones. Prosecutors also nabbed two Samsung officials who were allegedly involved with the technology transfer. Bellwave is suspected of developing a brand-new mobile phone handset, called ``Panda,¡¯¡¯ with 14 different kinds of stolen technologies, and allegedly provided a Chinese mobile phone maker with the knowledge needed to manufacturer it last September for 3 billion won. ``It has been confirmed that software in the Panda model is a copy of that in Samsung¡¯s SGH-8000,¡¯¡¯ said an official under condition of anonymity.
