I suspect that part of your objection to my post is tied up in your outlook on Al Q. You have consistently opposed any suggestions here that we widen our attack beyond this narrow group involved with 9/11. The attack is much wider, of course, to your chagrin.

No, that thought was not around in any recognizable form when I put together that post. I was bothered by two things:

(1) that it was directed toward kumar. I'm glad the two of you talked it over in PM.

(2) that the generalization that makes Islam the target of US actions rather than Al Q, is an extremely large one and that neither of us have anything approaching the reading background to make such claims.

In general, I would not object to making large claims based on large generalizations. It's something some of us or all of us do a great deal of on this thread. But I think attacking a religion is a different kind of topic. I don't know that it is or should be offtopic. But I do know that if you plan to do it, you need to have all your beans in a row.

As for attacking Islamists, I would be happy to debate the issue particularly since many of us have debated as to whether it was all Islamists who attacked the US on 9-11. Or whether, because Al Q did, we should hold all Islamists responsible and attack them? I grant you that sounds like religious discussion. But for me it's a discusson about who is a criminal and who is not.
