We didn't become buddies with Stalin until after Germany attacked the USSR. Then we sent supplies and equipment to the Russians. Should we have not sent them anything when they where doing the most fighting, killing, and dying in the war and they where fighting against our enemy?

Tim, what we should not have done is become allies.......diplomacy thru expediency has a tendency to kick us in the butt over and over and over again!

The Iran/Iraq case is less clear, but it was thought that Iran might overrun a big chunk of Iraq and destabilize the region. And that possibility was not a fantasy it might have happened.

When you play god and you are not one, you get into trouble very quickly. We needed to stay out of it. We need to stop acting preemptively......it very rarely works in averting trouble.

This kind of behavior rarely works on a personal level, and typically is the fodder for soap operas so why should it work in the arena of nations.
