Phil Knight managed to turn an athletic footwear brand into a symbol for the boomers' values and aspirations. His very success, however, has damaged his credibility with the younger generation. He's at a disadvantage when it comes to selling to younger folks; there's a big generation and credibility gap. So, we have a huge window of opportunity. There are only a few American brands with the longevity and X-gen respect which could, properly managed, be the Nike of a new generation. Vans is one of them.

The brand is already rock solid. The balance sheet is already strong. The orders are already flowing. This company has the raw materials to make the leap to the big leagues. I believe that whether or not it does---whether or not this is a $25 or $250 stock five years from now---will largely be a function of management skill.

Come on, guys. Do it for us. In the post-Nike world, the Vans brand is golden. Work it.
