New DOE grant to Unisolar

"High Efficiency Amorphous and
Microcrystalline Silicon Based Double-Junction
Solar Cells Made with Very-High-Frequency
Glow Discharge"

sbir.er.doe.gov m

For those who may remember my "El Sol" post in spring of 2001, germane is eliminated, the microcrystalline would still be flexible at 1-2 micron-thick for roll-to-roll manufacture, light-induced degradation would be reduced and speed of deposition increased. Last year Unisolar received grants to study microcrystalline Si and photohydrolysis and are submitting reports privately to the NREL, meaning I don't have the data. This grant is encouraging and may give us a glimpse of the next Unisolar manufacturing process and product if studies proceed well.
