Your synopsys assumes that a TA trader sells just once every year. I've traded CSCO 4 times this year for a total return in exess of 60%. If you had CSCO comming into the year (I believe it was near it's high) you would be at break even. The idea behind TA is to sell when the charts say sell, buy when the charts say buy. Some traders factor in FA as well (I do).

Here is an example that started out as a pure technical play:
This is on record as it took place....no after the fact posts.

I got in at the low .18-.20 (charts said to), and sold at close to the high ($2.56). I believe the bid topped out at 2.75 for a brief spell.
A 14 bagger is nothing to write off. If I had played my entire position as a long hold, It would be only a 3-4 bagger. I'll pay the taxes, thank you.<G>

May you have continued success.

PS: those two picks I gave to jeff today (pre-market open) have secured a 10% gain, and the other is still open for a 1 1/4 pt gain (on what was a 6 1/4 dollar stock). Not bad for 4 hours work. Jeff can vouch for these figures. I gave a third stock a well, but the entrance critera for the continued breakout (expansion breakout)was never met. I have not entered.
