The number that sticks in my mind is $1 per watt per existing machine and $2. per watt installed. I believe that this is a target that the PV plant has set for itself. Judging from the fairly high degree of automation and the increased capacity of the machine as well as the near 0 defect rates I am a believer that this machine will not only meet the targets but that it will be the prototype and experimental machine for many other cookie cutter operations. Baekart Steel is not a tiny operation. with 18,000 employees this is the beginning of a major new line of upgraded steel sales. Europe is much farther along the curve of energy purity than North America is production will sell better there than here.

I do remember a lot of discussion about the old plant producing at $6-9. per watt and being minimally competitive.

One thing I always wanted to bring to the attention of this board was that the Senator's wife from Michigan Barbara Levine once worked for ECD. another tidbit was that even fairly well educated people were not always given jobs at ECD.
