First the quoted price of $6.00 - $9.00 per watt was the sale price per watt. Unisolar at that time was trying to compete in the bulk energy sales. They had come to the realization that they would could get a premium price, because of their superior qualities i.e. resistance to damage, light weight, superior characteristics in space both in gathering light, heat and light weight. The panels have better performance in far northern or southern climes and where there is more blue in the light spectrum. The shingles are lighter weight. All of these characteristics and others help to establish a premium PV panel.

The $1.00 per watt and $2.00 per watt were figures that I heard from certain ECD individuals at the last annual meeting. These were NOT from top management but rather the more down to earth practical people. Was the individual talking about a future 100 meg plant and I misunderstood? Perhaps, but that was certainly not my impression.

The projections regarding costs are interesting speculations to consider. They do not take into account the cost of capital. Usually companies set a gross profit figure in the 30 -50 % range as a minimum to assure net profitability, and a payback of capital of 3 years. I remember this thread's discussions on the royalties that would accrue to ECD upon the acceptance of the DVD RAM format, at least in the PV area we significant control of production.
