and 9 billion non-whites. it escapes me why you would want a world government where people of similar origins
and thinking as you make up only 10% of the vote.

Marc Rich, the pardoned billionaire fugitive financier, is back.
He surfaced earlier this month at a gala in Jerusalem at which he and other major supporters of birthright israel were honored. It is believed the first time Rich has appeared at a public event - yet alone honored - since he received a controversial presidential pardon during Bill Clinton's final hours in office.
As birthright participants looked on at the Binyanei Haumah theater on Jan. 5, Rich was called to the stage with seven others and given a plaque from birthright israel for committing himself to donate $5 million over five years.

Because Winnick had paid a sizeable sum for a Democratic Party fundraiser, he was afforded time to speak to the crowd. "This egomaniac," wrote Reeves, "who could afford the tab got up and rambled on about how rich and daring he was and how great his kids were." Then he put a cap with his telecommunications company's logo (Global Crossing) on the head of Secreatry of State Madeline Albright. "It made you cringe to be a citizen of the world's greatest democracy," wrote Reeves. "But that's the way it works these days." Winnick's company expected to lay 100,000 miles of fiber-optic cable to 27 countries and 200 cities by mid-2001. He has pleged $40 million to start an institute named after himself in Israel. In recent years, there have been several prominent cases in which ethical issues came to the forefront. Among them:
¥ Ivan Boesky, an investment banker, was convicted in 1987 of insider trading and sentenced to three years in prison. Boesky was a board member of the Conservative Movement's Jewish Theological Seminary and had endowed the library. Boesky resigned from the board and JTS removed his name from the library, but kept his donations.
¥ Michael Milken, who, with Boesky, was convicted of insider trading, is now a prominent funder of Jewish causes in the US and Israel, including a large Jewish high school in Los Angeles and the Gesher Center in Jerusalem, both of which bear his name. Milken, who was released after serving several years in prison, was also considered for a presidential pardon by Clinton, but did not get one.

Grass, the founder of Rite Aid Corporation, is a former Chairman of The Hebrew University's Board of Governors and in 1993 established the Alex Grass Center for Drug Design and Synthesis of Novel Therapeutics at HU. He also and served as President of the Israel Education Fund and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. He has been honored by American Friends of the Hebrew University with the National Scopus and Torch of Learning awards for his dedication to the University and its work.

There wasn't a dry eye in the room at the October 2000 opening of Manhattan's Center for Jewish History as philanthropists dedicated a building named for two Holocaust survivors and built with money pledged by their successful businessman son.
"Here's a man and a woman who survived the Nazis, flourished in the United States, gave back to the community and raised three wonderful children," said the chairman of the center's board of directors, Bruce Slovin. "That Jewish story is our story; that's what we all talk about. It's the American dream."
Alas, that dream has turned into a nightmare. The Jack and Sabina Waksal Building was built with a generous donation by ImClone CEO Samuel Waksal, who now stands accused of insider stock trading after his company's cancer treatment drug, Erbitux, was denied approval by the Food and Drug Administration in December. On June 12, Waksal was arrested by federal officials in his Soho loft. He is free on $10 million bond but faces millions of dollars in fines and a prison sentence, if convicted.
