What you actually said was: "If you violate a basic social norm, you are behaving very badly, unless it can be shown that the norm does not apply to the situation, or does not do so with full force. " A norm can apply to a situation with full force, but you can still oppose it. That's the part of the equation you left out of the statement. So you did say it, but I am comfortable with your later clarifications of it.
