I am more concerned with the ideal tribunal, as it were, where one makes every effort to square the matter with conscience. And I admit there may be reasons to not want to plead your case before a given person or group, or to not be able to because they are too much a product of different social norms to understand. Also, of course, there are transgressions that are too trivial to be constantly excusing oneself for. But I do think that there are other interested parties in many instances to whom one owes an explanation if the matter comes up, and that one should be eager enough to show that one's case can stand up to scrutiny, and to sustain the bond of trust, if possible, with those who question one........
