Support Found for Claims by Torricelli Donor, Letter Says

Federal investigators found "substantial corroborating evidence" for the claims of a wealthy political contributor who said he had given tens of thousands of dollars in cash and gifts to Senator Robert G. Torricelli, prosecutors said in a letter made public yesterday.

The prosecutors said they ultimately decided not to bring criminal charges against Senator Torricelli because the donor had seriously undermined his own credibility as a potential witness by making a series of false or erratic statements about his business dealings and other matters.<<<
