I think there is a lot of erroneous data on options. I have seen large contracts be booked as as opening transaction when infact they should have been closing, and simple adjusted ona clearing firms' books rather than on floor. etc.

There are small occassions when one would exercise out of the money on more illiquid stocks where purchasing in open market might run stock a bit. But obvioulsy its a math issue. out of money amount versus potential move in stock if you went to acquire position in open market.

outside of that, i find it nearly impossible to reconcile moving open interests...
