>>I don't personally have too much of an issue with people voting for candidates they believe will put a bit more coin in their pockets<<

hi lp...

i think it's natural for people to want candidates that will put more coin in the pocket.

the issue reflected in the quotes however, deals with taxation of one group (expensing them) for the benefit of another.

SS is the most unsettling example of this. and why (my opinion) i believe that legislators have allowed the funding problems to persist. the funding problems have resulted from expansion of benefits (pandering for votes) at the expense of weaker (less-voting) constituencies. as long as the "recipient" constituency has the majority and the politician is unwilling to legislate what is in the best interest of the country as a whole, we will continue to see irresponsible fiscal behavior.

i do think that as times become leaner, the balkanization will become more pronounced.

( btw....re: capital gains/flat tax.....lp for president!)
