The underlying assumption in your question is that a newspaper in a particular country is presumed to speak for that country. Call me old-fashioned, but I thought that newspapers were supposed to report news objectively, without fear or favor. How can you be fair, much less objective, if you are spinning every story in your country's favor?

Besides, Australia's population is only 18 or 19 million compared to 290 million plus for the US. How many major newspapers can they have?
