The huge Arab nation and direct it against the US?

That would be the likely next step, as well as Europe... Once he controls the oil fields and economic jugular of the Western economies.

Either he "lords" over Persian Gulf oil resources, or the US steps in to do some temporary "lording" of its own, until some responsible leaders can be found to take on the task.

So the next time folks want to ponder the correctness of the Bush policies, they might want to ponder what Saddam will do once he has that nuclear shield to hide behind. I don't think he'll be nearly as unsure about the correctness of HIS actions, should he obtain the power to fulfill his desires.
