Saddam repeatedly misreads US and UN intentions; a structural information flow in Iraq in which Saddam is most likely to hear only what he wishes to hear; a recklessness on his part; etc.

Sounds to ME like delusional behavior.. A guy who shuts himself off from the world, lives a life of paranoia (justifiably, it would seem) never sleeping in the same bed more than two nights in a row, and who is afraid of any bacterial contact (howard hughes?) and has lost touch with reality...

Yep... a dangerous man to have possessing nuclear weapons...

Btw, did anyone post that the Turks intercepted 33 pounds of weapons grade uranium apparently bound for Iraq?:

As for discussions of policy alternatives, I would say that Saddam's state of mind is the primary driver of such policy and thus, is integral to any discussions.

And it's why GwB Jr. has taken such steps not to waffle about what US intentions are. Hopefully he will submit to intrusive inspections that will assure us that he doesn't have any WMDs, but if not, we have to be willing to take extreme measures of our own to be certain.
