The guys says whatever is most politically expedient

I think he will lose a lot of ground with Bush that way. Although the war with Iraq looked as if it had a favorable conclusion, hindsight tells us the job was not finished properly.

A lot of mistakes were made since then, and what ever fingers can be pointed at Bush, a lot more could be pointed at the Clinton administration.

It's my belief also that this is not about oil. Before 9/11 Bush was going to focus a lot more on domestic policy then contemplating any war with Iraq. Just read any news article pre 9/11. The Guardian maybe a left wing news paper but it has an excellent search facility.

That has all changed now. Oil companies might see this as an opportunity for them, but the political situation means they will have to be on their best behaviour. I think Putin has some ideas in Iraq too.

Interesting Turkey election update
