The depth of which we'll never know. At some point, it will be limited to speculation. It has to be. No government would survive it.

Dream back to the Nixon era. A bungled burglary that was covered up. Seemingly, a rather simple abuse of power. But what followed was a pardon of Nixon by Ford of the broadest possible criminal acts. The burglary was merely the key to the many abuses of Nixon of which the full Congress became fully aware.

We don't pass laws just for the heck of it. Someone does something that drives the law. It took a few years to put it together but in Nixon's case, he's responsible for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act...or How to protect Americans from the likes of Richard Nixon.

Nearly every passage in the FISA can be interpreted as...so that's what Nixon did.

If we're lucky, that's what will happen here. We'll have a How to protect Americans from the likes of George W. Bush Act and that will be the end of it.
