This makes sense instead of retransporting the containers via truck across the U.S. increasing time factors, costs and chance of risk enroute. Our ports are in a total state of gridlock at times especially around the holidays when containers are off loaded and stacked up like decks of cards waiting to unshuffle. The common complaint is not enough help dockside. The s/s companies think the delays are contrived.

Right now the news reports that the lockout is off while the negotiations progress. But slowdowns apparently will continue. The big dispute is over the maritime ports automating some unloading activities reducing a few union jobs. The unions are not in favor of speeding up the dispatch of cargo through their hands. The average pay for stevedores is $80,000 per annum.

I thought that furniture would be available at low cost, perhaps, from American low cost factories in North Carolina and the deep South? But I guess all things are going to China now. I noticed Tomato products coming into California from China - unbelievable, our being the world's biggest tomato producing area. There are thousands of acres of tomatoes still being picked here while we speak.
