How long does this "deflation" period usually take, for people who have been through one of these before?

I can see its a slow process... right now we have a large inventory of houses for sale and a lot of people pulling their houses off the mkt because they aren't selling. Probably this is typical in the initial phases of a
decline.

Assuming the decline started this last summer, are we looking at a 2 year process? Somehow I think that was the result of the last real estate decline in N Ca (in the early 90s)... but I really don't remember and didn't own property at the time.
