As the markets became more free of regulation in the recent past, the public became more free of pensions, health insurance, savings and secure futures.
That's absolutely correct. And those who would sacrifice personal freedoms - an inevitable consequence of delegating personal decisions to the government - for security (whether military, economic, or other) deserve neither.
Where there is demand and a profit can be made, private business has filled it. Where there isn't, people have to either do without or pay up. The consumer makes the ultimate choice, not a wealthy bureaucrat in an office as you'd prefer. I understand that you must feel great trepidation at the very thought of having to be responsible for yourself, but real life will eventually step in anyway.
Show a morsel of courage and succeed or fail heroically.
Or, feel free to point out a Constitutionally-guaranteed right to "pensions, health insurance, savings or secure futures." Or, even better, of some Constitutionally-imposed obligation for any American to support the sick, dumb, lame, lazy, or unlucky with their tax dollars?
You can't, and you won't.
