Harpo, The settle time means ni bids. If a bid comes in 1 second before the end you start a new settle period.

That is the puropse, to allow the bid to be seen by all, considered and new bids entered.

Sniping works because it denies people a reply. Of course if people loaded their proxy with their max then it would make no difference at all.

But they do not, a large number of people want to bid a value and wait to see if it is topped...then bid a bit more.

The reason people want sniping is the reason it should be curbed....it keeps the final value down since at the end there is no time left to type in a larger bid and wait for it to traverse the web to ebay.

Now the wait period of 2-5 minutes would make no difference? so says you. What then not implement it?
