Interesting - has anyone ever tried this:
taken from Computer Shopper

A VIABLE VINYL ALTERNATIVE

Q>I would like to record some Of my LPs onto CD-Rs so that I can play them on a CD player. If I remove the turntable from my stereo sound system is there a way to connect it to my computer? If so, how can I save the tracks to my
hard drive?

A>There's no need to remove the turntable from the stereo system. Simply connect the stereo's line Out (which may be labeled -'to tape' or 'tape out") to an audio-in connector on your PCs sound card. Then you can use a utility such as, Spin Doctor which
is included with Roxio's Easy CD Creator (www.roxio.com), to convert the turntable's signal to WAV files that can be burned to CDs-. Spin Doctor can also automatically filter some of the LPs scratches and pops.
