ESS Technology Files Lawsuit Against MediaTek for Copyright Infringement

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESST - News), today announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek Inc. for recently discovered copyright infringement of ESS's DVD firmware used with its Swan and Vibratto chips. The suit filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California alleges that MediaTek intentionally and unlawfully used ESS's copyrighted DVD firmware in MediaTek's products. The lawsuit seeks damages and requests that the Court issue a preliminary and permanent injunction to stop MediaTek's products and DVD players containing those products from being imported into the United States.
