After downloading and installing AdAware go back to the lavasoft site and download the latest ref file.

You'll find it here as the latest signature file

lavasoft.de

It's like downloading the latest virus definitions before scanning for viruses. Unzip the ref file you downloaded and go to "C"/ Program Files/ Lavasoft AdAware folder and drag and drop the reffile.awr into it. You will be prompted about replacing the file and choose ok. Now you are set to run a scan. Select all the files AdAware finds and then hit the backup button and when prompted to save name it something like 09302002adawarebackup. Then hit the continue button and ok the "remove selected components from your system " button. You're done...spyware removed. If you find that one of your programs that installed this crap doesn't work like it did I would suggest getting a different program or go to the help files in AdAware and restore the backup.
