We have them there because we needed a "Lily Pad" in the area, Carl. We will probably establish one in Iraq. I could make the argument that we pull them all home and forget about the rest of the world. As a matter of fact I used to believe that.

But I changed my mind, years ago. Our very size and dominance forces us to have troops over there if we want to protect our interests. I used to defend your position. It is ideologically pure, but Utopian.
