Hmm, a couple of questions about that point, John. First, I assume the New Jersey Supreme Court is the final arbiter in such matters. I don't think it's controlled by the Dems. Whitman, as governor, had a good many appointments. No idea how many. I would gather the issue has to do with how clearly defined the law is and, if not, all sorts of sentiments, political affiliations, and the like will come into play.
I'm not absolutely certain about the state supreme court being the last place. Perhaps the US Supreme Court does. I just don't know. At this point I assume the former. But, it could well be that issue could be put into play and, if so, and if the Republicans lose at the state level, I would expect them, despite their states rights allegiances, to appeal to the Supremes. Those contradictions never seem to bother them. |
