Conversent Communications Selects Lucent Technologies to Help Expand Multi-service Network Throughout Northeast

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. and MURRAY HILL, N.J., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Conversent Communications, an integrated communications provider, today announced it has signed an agreement valued at up to $35 million with Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - News) to expand its multi-service network throughout the Northeast.
Under the three-year agreement, Conversent will employ a broad portfolio of Lucent products and services that will enhance and expand the company's state-of-the-art facilities-based network. Conversent currently provides advanced voice, data, video and high-speed Internet services to more than 30,000 business customers from Maine to New Jersey.

Lucent's solution from the core to the edge of the Conversent network includes:

reach of its basic voice service network and frame relay service.
-- Stinger(R) DSL Access Concentrator -- a carrier-class DSL access
concentrator platform that will provide Conversent customers the
highest quality of voice over DSL along with high-speed data,
Internet and video services over one copper connection.
-- The Metropolis(R) DMX Access Multiplexer -- an integrated
SONET/Ethernet metro access multiplexer that will enable Conversent to
cost-effectively meet its current metro-area access needs while
providing a solid foundation for future bandwidth and service growth
-- The PacketStar(R) (PSAX) Multiservice Media Gateways -- already widely
deployed in the Conversent network, PSAX aggregates voice and data
traffic and will deliver a wider range of frame-relay, IP and ATM
services to end users.
-- Lucent Navis(TM) Network Operations Software -- a centralized software
solution that provisions, controls and monitors Conversent's DSL
network.
