WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Winning awards in each major geographic region it operates in, American Power Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC; APC) received widespread recognition for its products, services and operations during the third quarter 2002.

During the quarter, APC's revolutionary new power infrastructure solution, PowerStruXure(TM), continued to turn heads. The readers of Windows & .NET Magazine voted it the "Best High Availability Solution" in its annual Reader's Choice Awards. PowerStruXure was selected over other high availability software and hardware solutions. Readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 16 broad technology categories. More than 2,300 readers voted on nearly 90 technology products.
APC also came out on top in the "Best Disaster Recovery Tools" category in the Windows & .NET Magazine's Reader's Choice Awards. APC's Symmetra® Rack- mount Power Array® garnered nearly 70 percent of the votes for "Best Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)."

Also in the US, InformationWeek magazine again ranked APC among the most innovative users of information technology (IT). In this annual Who's Who among IT users, the InformationWeek 500, APC moved up the list to number 117 in the 2002 rankings.
For the desktop user, one of APC's newest solutions, the Back-UPS® ES, received the "Gold Award" from PC PowerPlay in Australia scoring 91 points and was recommended as an "essential item" for the PC. APC's Back-UPS CS 500 was named "Best in Test" by PC World in Norway; in the Czech Republic Hospodarske noviny presented APC's Cyberfort its "Tip Digital Award"; and in Italy APC's Back-UPS Pro 650 was "Recommended" by PC Open magazine.
In the UK, PCHome recognized APC's expanding desktop PC offerings when it coined the USB cell phone charger as a "Dream Gadget" winning the magazine's "Silver Award" in the process.
In India, PCQuest polled its readers for their annual "Users Choice" awards. APC won both categories judged, i.e., the 1kVA and below UPS category and the 5kVA and above, and was presented with its sixth consecutive PCQuest "Users Choice" award. PCQuest editors also bestowed an award on APC, presenting the Smart-UPS® 1000 with its "Editor's Choice" designation. And to round out the constituents in India, Computer Reseller News polled Indian resellers and APC again came out on top, this time as the "Most Admired Company" in the UPS category.
Also in Asia, APC China was recognized for the fourth time as having the "Best Customer Service" by the China Information Industry Development Research Center. Additionally, Asia Computer Weekly again recognized APC as a "Technology Trailblazer" in the Security category.
In Australia, Technology and Business magazine sought to find the best UPS for two scenarios, i.e., a small to medium enterprise with a budget of $1,000 and an Internet Service Provider (ISP) with a budget of $5,000. APC's Smart- UPS had the best solution for both. The Smart-UPS 700, with its strong power management offering, was selected for the first scenario and the Smart-UPS 3000, offering long run time and a competitive cost-per-minute return on investment, was chosen best for the ISP.
During the third quarter, APC's Smart-UPS line was also well represented in the winner's circle throughout Europe. APC's Smart-UPS offering garnered awards in both the line interactive and on-line categories from PC Direct in Germany. Specifically, APC's Smart-UPS 1500 was named "Best Line Interactive UPS" and APC's Smart-UPS On-Line 1000 was named "Best On-Line UPS." In Greece, the Smart-UPS 1000 received both the "Editor's Choice" and the "Highest Efficiency" award from PC Magazine and the Smart-UPS 1000 extended run received an "Editor's Choice" designation from PC Magazine. In France, APC's Smart-UPS 3000 Rack-mount extended run unit was selected "Editor's Choice" from 01 Reseaux and in Italy the Smart-UPS 1000 was "Recommended" by PC Open magazine.
Finally, APC continues establish itself as a leader in Latin America. In Brazil, APC was found by IDG ComputerWorld to have "Outstanding Performance" in the power protection category.
