The environmentalists were not the primary cause of the end of the program. And as far as the ozone hole goes, your reasoning is a little weird. The big thing with the ozone hole was always fluorocarbons. There's been some change in the use of fluorocarbons, I hear. You used to be able to buy cans of Freon cheap enough that they were marketed for blowing dust off. Maybe, just maybe, the ozone hole shrinking has something to do with people not doing that anymore. Sorry that that line of reasoning doesn't fit your "real American" axe grinding needs, though.
