SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fonix(R) Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: FONX), a leading provider of natural-user interface technology, today announced that the Fonix DECtalk(R) formant-based speech synthesizer has been selected by Eintech Co., Ltd., a major Korean provider of multi-media language learning devices, to drive Eintech's Magic Talker's Personal Bilingual Assistant. Magic Talker's model EK-D8800 is now available to enable users to learn English via Fonix DECtalk's natural-sounding, highly intelligible Text-To-Speech (TTS) technology.
"Fonix is the leading company in the world in the field of natural-user interface technology. Eintech is pleased to be able to leverage Fonix' capabilities in this new version of Magic Talker's," said Wan-Sung Choi, Director of R & D Department of Eintech Co., Ltd. "Fonix DECtalk is the best small-footprint TTS technology on the market, making it an ideal choice for our very popular language learning product. No other TTS Synthesizer in the world could have accomplished what Fonix DECtalk did on this device."
Eintech has guaranteed an initial purchase of 100,000 copies of Fonix DECtalk for use with Magic Talker's. A new, ultra-small version of Fonix' speech software has been implemented for Magic Talker's, which carries all necessary conversational information to store and produce language tasks within a single memory chip.
"Language learning products are a perfect example of how TTS technology can transform the educational environment," said Dr. K.H. Loken-Kim, vice president of Asian Operations for Fonix. "Eintech's use of Fonix DECtalk is an exciting step forward for both our companies. We look forward to helping thousands of people acquire and expand their English-speaking skills via Fonix DECtalk."
Magic Talker's is a unique, portable language learning/translation device capable of speaking thousands of phrases in native U.S. English speech. Only slightly larger than a cassette tape, the unit has a touch-panel LCD screen that lets Korean-language users choose any of over 7,600 common English sentences used in business, travel, and everyday conversation, and then to hear those sentences spoken aloud in English. What's more, Magic Talker's offers a 160,000-word English/Korean dictionary and a 100,000-word Korean/English dictionary, allowing users to check the meaning of the word simply by touching the word on the LCD screen.
Fonix DECtalk is the smallest fully featured, formant-based synthesizer in the world. Occupying less than 25 KB ROM and 5KB RAM of digital storage space, Fonix DECtalk is ideally suited for embedded and wireless devices in a wide range of products such as automotive telematics, Personal Digital Assistants, laptops, smartphones, MP3 players and more.
Fonix DECtalk's ability to speak letters, words, or phrases makes it ideal for speaking unusual words or proper names, including ethnic-specific names. It offers punctuation control for pauses, pitch, and stress, and can support variable speaking rates from 75 to 600 words per minute.
Magic Talker's model EK-D8800 with Fonix DECtalk technology is immediately available for purchase from Eintech.
