WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At least 56 Midwesterners have become ill in the latest suspected contamination of ground beef with a potentially deadly strain of E. coli bacteria, state health officials said on Friday.

The outbreak in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois comes just days after the U.S. Department of Agriculture, under fire for allegedly failing to protect the public against E. coli 0157:H7, declared "war" on it and ordered all U.S. beef plants to adopt new safeguards.

Could be this is the reason maybe they have to close the plant down for a bit to clean it up.
