Delbert Kroupa - thank you for this.

I was beginning to despair that nobody in America can see the issue in this (rational) light. Every day on TV the US President is telling fairy tales of 'goodness' and 'evil', preparing to strike a country that has shown no more aggression in the past decade than many others. I find it difficult to believe that America believes these rather strange and simplistic presidential messages.

From where I sit in Europe, the picture is very clear - the current administration has decided it is a good idea to change the balance of power in the world to their favour as much as possible in the time when they will be able to do so, until the sympathy of the world regarding the 9/11 runs out. Thus America will attack Iraq, killing who knows how many thousands of civilians in the process, in order to replace the regime with one that will be much more sympathetic to its oil needs.

Personally, I am afraid of what this will mean for politics in the future - now that the way is paved, why should not Pakistan attack India "pre-emptively"? Why should Turkey not march into Athens because they feel Greece might pose a problem in the future?

Disclosure: While I am not American, I do not hold any love or hate towards Americans or the US of A. I am terribly sorry for the 3,000 people who have lost their lives in New York last year, just as I am sorry for the 6,000 people who have lost their lives in Afghanistan. All of the above is written without a trace of malice, the way most Europeans see the issue at hand.
