"Where do you get the idea that "martyr" is a flattering term"

The Islamic community overseas uses this term as a compliment and they are treated like heroes. You must be pretty sheltered if you do not think there are any positive implications with this word.

"The terrorists consider us infidels and as such they believe it is their duty to kill us"

This indicates to me that you think our view points are equal. Because these guys hate our society and our way of life, their belief that it is their duty to kill us has the same weight as our position, which is everyone has a right to LIFE. This is a GIANT difference between me and you.

"but I am trying to correct your incorrect view of what a martyr is..."

You have not convinced me that "martyr" has no positive implications to those who describe themselves as martyrs or the terrorists as martyrs. Terrorists is how I think they should be labeled. You say that martyr is an equal term and I disagree.

Anyone else want to chip in? Is "martyr" a flattering term or is it the equivelent of "terrorist" as JF suggests?
