No.....not anymore. In the 70's we had some interesting rules that allowed for hits on any part of the field. Basically each guy had 1 shot at the receiver so on long passes you would see a safety move up and stoke a guy while the ball was in the air. Now you can hit a guy within 5 yards of the line but not if the ball is in flight
