Guys,

Since we blame everything hapenning on Bush or Clinton, and in general Clinton was great for the environment and Bush is evil please answer the following:

1) When did SUV's become the norm of soccer Mom's? Under Bush or Clinton?

2) What happened to greenhouse gass emissions from jan '93 to jan '01?

3) redefine the years to those entirely under Democratic control (Senate and Presidency) and re-answer?

Answers: Clinton, Up and Up (with no change in rate)

Does this make Clinton a hypocritical enviro-wannabe? No, it just illustrates how little control a President has over peoples tastes.

basically everyone wants their comfort and technology and wants environmental cleanup at someone elses expense.

Disclosure- I proudly drive a Ford Expedition - but I also run a Boy Scout Troop. I really do use the 4x4, tow trailers up logging roads and use it as a truck. My first weekend I had two canoes on top, 8 on a trailer, 7 boys inside and 500 lbs of gear. Try that in an econo-box.

As an environmentalist, I see lots of soccer moms and guys who want to look tough driving Hummers, Expeditions and Suburbans that never see a dirt road and cringe. But how do you solve taste? And increased cost of gas won't help much, most of the folks I know would complain but most like their comforts. Just look at cigarettes in Canada - $10 a pack and no big drop in smoking.

BTW - what about Mercs and BMW's? Some of these small cars with their high performance engines get leass than 15mpg.

John
