Recovery IS impossible.

Did LTCM ever make a new high?
Did ENE ever make a new high?
Did tulips ever make a new high after the plunge.

I'm saying yes, recovery from a mania can happen and has. I gave 2 examples- california real estate in the 80s (NY real estate also I believe) and the 80s art market.

I'm not saying every tulip recovers to his old highs, for example I doubt too many think yahoo will ever see his highs again. But you are implying recovery NEVER happens... that just isn't true.
