As far as what obligation we have to the people of Afghanistan, as the story comes out, the U.S. is very guilty of cruel games of realpolitik that extend back to the Carter years.

It's the clearest statement I've yet found on the Net of how the U.S. has consciously, cynically and immorally destabilized the country of Afghanistan the sake of our evil "Great Game" imperialism.

The mess we have just created in Afghanistan is simply a continuation of an ongoing and cynical policy of de-stabilization. What we are doing in Afghanistan is the antithesis of American principles and the "Freedom and Democracy" that George Bush continually lies about hoping to achieve.
