There's also Vladivostok. But Russia never had all that much of a blue water navy. Their SSBM fleet was known for being in port 90% of the time, even when the Soviet Union was at its peak.

Anyway, Afghanistan is a pretty odd route to a warm water port. They'd still have to figure out something to do with Pakistan or Iran. Neither of which were particularly well inclined toward the USSR in that time frame. The legendary quest for a warm water port makes about as much sense as a reason for the Soviets going into Afghanistan as the Unocal pipeline thing does as a reason for the US going into Afghanistan. It might have been a thought, but it makes no sense as a primary objective.
