I would risk losing a few artists rather than trying to support all of them. I doubt Van Gogh ever considered hanging up his brushes because he could not get a government subsidy. I wonder what his art would have been like if he had received medical treatment and financial support? On Prozac he may have painted bright cheery scenes of flowers and painted bird houses instead of the images that made him immortal.
